It has become popular over the years to offer farmhouse antiques as collector’s items. This includes everything from the old butter churns to the sideboard tables and will frequently include old suitcases and trunks.
What are Farmhouse Antiques?
The items being sold as farmhouse antiques will have their origins in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. If you are lucky they can be in original condition, with no repainting or fixing.
You find the items in whatever condition they were found in; now you get to choose how you wish to display them. That means you can leave them as is or refurbish them. Whether by yourself or by hiring a professional to do it.
Almost anything from this time period has become popular to own. Is it that because we are trying to get back to our roots?
Do things that come from our past fascinate us? Or is it a monetary investment where collectors hope the value will rise?

Fake it Till you Make it?
Other shops offer farmhouse antiques that are actually not. They are furniture made now in the styles of the older days. Then distressed to make them look more like older pieces.
This is an unusual way of selling antiques when they are actually modern pieces of furniture. But has it become popular because older pieces can be so hard to find? And when they are they often are not in a very good condition anymore.
So for a person who just wants something that looks like an old piece of furniture, this option satisfies them. True antique collectors will settle only for real farmhouse antiques.
Are Auctions your Best Bet?
Many of these are purchased not in attractive little shops, or farmhouses that have been renovated into cute country shops, but at auctions where literally everything from the kitchen sink is available to be bought.
Some of the more common farmhouse antiques you may find include windows from old farmhouses, pots, wagon wheels, crocks, and stoneware.
But you may also find those rare items like antique baby cradles, spinning wheels, or an old sleigh. Furniture can also be found at these auctions of farmhouse antiques where you can purchase chairs, old school desks, or tables.
You may even come across an interesting old wooden trunk.
