This is my 2021 casual summer capsule wardrobe. I based it on an urge I’m having to wear dresses and a couple of overalls.

Why I Wear a Capsule Wardrobe
I started wearing capsule wardrobes in the fall of 2017.
Quick back story….
For a year or two before I discovered the capsule wardrobe world, I was struggling with my weight and confidence. I was crossing the threshold into Plus size and refused to buy any new clothes. I kept telling myself “when I lose weight”.
This dragged on until the majority of the clothes hanging in my closet either A) didn’t fit in a flattering way or B) wasn’t my true style.
I ended wearing sweatpants and t-shirts for far too long. The result of that was whatever confidence I had left ended up ditching me. “She said bye-girl, call me when you get it together”. The thing about baggy clothes is that they make you look even bigger than what you are. They also don’t show off what you do have.
The Discovery
After finally wanting a change I did some research. I first looked into why I don’t wear the clothes I have in my closet. What I learned from that was most of the clothing I owned didn’t make me feel pretty and it actually did the opposite. It was pointing out all the areas I was self-conscious about.
The clothing I had from forever 21, Agaic and the like stores, was made for a slimmer woman who doesn’t have the same curves as I do. It was made for the popular girls in my high school, whose style I thought I should have. And last it was made for someone who didn’t have any insecurities about her body.
Once I learned this, I went into action doing further research about these 3 topics. And how to cater to me and my needs.

3 Steps To A Better Me!
I learned to dress my body type. I have to thank Christie Ressel. She makes awesome videos about dressing for your body type and I learned a lot from her. Like the reason high-waisted pants are the best option for me is because my backside curves out so my pants need to sit on top of my curve in order to keep from slipping down. (Game-changer!)
I found my style. Finding my style was the fun part. I simply went on Pinterest and typed in fashion. Whenever I came across an outfit I really loved I read the caption. What seemed to pop up most often was the word casual. Seeing this I typed in casual fashion on Pinterest and BAM. I loved almost every fit combo I saw.
I catered around my insecurities. Again Christie Ressel helped me with this. I discovered that the reason why I grabbed v-neck tops before a crew neck top was that the v draws a person’s attention upwards and away from the stomach area. The reason I hardly wore shorts was that horizontal lines along your legs can make you look shorter.
Once I learned these things I had to decide I’m I going to let clothes hold me back, or take what I learned and make myself better. (Now I only allow myself to own 1 pair of sweat pants and 3 graphic tees)
Summer Capsule Wardrobe
Now It’s been years later and we’re getting ready for summer in 2021. For some reason, I have this itch to wear dresses. Myself personally never really been a dress girl. I only wore them for special occasions. I envision myself wearing them around the house, cooking dinner.
My vision for this summer is to be comfortable, girly, and simple. I’m sure it’s just a phase but I’m so over pants right now lol. My plans are to move houses and get my fall garden ready. I tried making the pieces I chose to reflect that. The only things that are missing are a sun hat and garden boots.
This post isn’t sponsored by Shein, but I decided to get all my dresses and a few overalls from them. I went on their site and they were all really cute. I also picked some shoes and a crossbody from Amazon.
