The modern farmhouse style is a combination of the traditional country style and the contemporary style. It incorporates clean lines and invites a comforting feeling to the space. Below I talk about 5 different categories that will help you achieve that modern farmhouse look you see all over Pinterest!
The light fixtures in the modern farmhouse style are usually dark statement pieces. You will find most of them black, bronze, or some type of dark metal with straight lines. The common light bulbs used are Candelabra or Edison bulbs.
Most modern sink faucets have what looks like a hook shape to them, and are usually 3 basic colors, chrome, nickel, or oil brushed. You can choose to have a pull sprayer intergrade in the faucet or separate and on the side.
There really only one option when it comes to modern farmhouse kitchen sinks and for good reason and that’s the apron sink. They are really beautiful and give a clean look. For bathroom sinks, there are more options but the most popular is an under-mount square basin. White is the most comment color of sinks for both kitchens and bathrooms.
Knobs and Pulls
There are two very common cabinet hardware types when it comes to the farmhouse look. The first is a classic straight pull handle that is metal (shown in the picture to the right). The second is a cupped handle that is also metal. Here is a link to one. These two are used as pulls and knobs when turned horizontal.
Not many think to update their light switches but if you do a simple metal plate with a rocker switch will tie into the modern farmhouse look nicely.
